Despite living in an age when the trend cycle evolves at a breakneck pace, PatBO creative director and founder Patricia Bonaldi has never been one to follow the pack. In fact, even as a child, when she began designing and making clothes with her mother, she always had an innate sense of personal style. "I will never be a minimalist," she tells Bazaar with a small laugh. "I really like to mix and play with looks, including vintage and edgy pieces. For me, fashion should exist for days, to express yourself and have fun with it."
It's exactly this ethos that permeates the Brazilian designer's own sensual, intricate creations, which have garnered hundreds of thousands of Instagram followers and numerous A-list fans. Among them are Paris Hilton, Selena Gomez, and Beyoncé, for whom Bonaldi designed two custom gowns during the singer's Renaissance tour last fall.
Whether it be the brand's splashy resort styles or its recent return to eveningwear after a years-long hiatus, one theme remains consistent: an attention to meticulous craftsmanship. To that end, every piece from the brand's NYFW show on Saturday was handmade by local female artisans in Bonaldi's hometown of Uberlandia—where Bonaldi opened up a school in 2010 to teach students time-honored techniques like sewing and embroidery.
Though her fall 2024 collection won't hit stores until September, customers can currently grab one of Bonaldi's favorite pieces from the line, thanks to her collaboration with shopping platform Rakuten. Now through February 23, those who sign up for Rakuten's free membership can purchase PatBO's Hand-Beaded Bodysuit through the platform and earn 10 percent cash back in the process.
