• Helena Bonham Carter just revealed that she once asked Prince William to be her daughter's godfather.
  • The actress made the revelation during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.
  • Bonham Carter also offered advice to Meghan Markle about dealing with the press.

Helena Bonham Carter transformed into Princess Margaret in The Crown Season 3, but it seems that the actress already had some curious ties to royalty.

Appearing on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen to promote the regal Netflix show, Bonham Carter revealed that she once asked Prince William to be godfather to her daughter, Nell. She explained, "I wasn’t that drunk... He wasn’t totally sober himself. Not in a bad way, it was just very jolly."

As for why she asked the Duke of Cambridge, Bonham Carter said, “Thing is, I’d spent all my friends as godparents on my first child, so Billy had 11 godparents. So, I thought I could make up for Nell, you know who suddenly came along and we didn’t have any left. I thought, ‘Well, if I give her Prince William that would cover,’ you know?”

However, according to the actress, the prince politely declined. "He just said, 'You don’t want me to be godfather to your child.' And I left. I mean, obviously it didn’t work out."

The star previously told the story of trying to enlist William as a godparent at a Windsor Castle charity dinner in 2014. According to People, Bonham Carter said, "I got very drunk at one point, and I was determined to ask him to be a godfather to my daughter." She continued, "He quite wisely said 'no.'"
