Someone queue up “Love Story” by Taylor Swift.
Earlier this week, Duchess Meghan sat down for an interview on The Jamie Kern Lima Show podcast, where she got candid about everything from motherhood to her career and her relationship. And as for the latter, she couldn’t keep herself but gush about husband Prince Harry, who she essentially called her hero—a tiny, Italian plumber hero that is. I’ll explain.
During her conversation with Kern Lima, Meghan hilariously compared her relationship to something out of a video game fairytale. “I always think about it like the end of Super Mario Bros,” the duchess said of her and Harry’s dynamic. “When you get to the final final level and they say, ‘Slay the dragon, save the princess.’ I’m like, that’s my husband.”
Meghan went on to reveal how she and Harry keep the spark alive, nine years in. She said, “It’s not something to be taken for granted when you have a partner, a spouse, who is just so behind you. H, that man loves me so much.”
“Look what we’ve built? We have a beautiful life, we have two healthy children,” she added, referring to their little ones: Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3.
The duchess, who married the prince in 2018, told Kern Lima that everything she and Harry have been through as a couple, especially during their time as senior royals, has helped strengthen their relationship. “At the beginning, everyone is like, ‘butterflies!’ and then we immediately went into the trenches together—right out the gate—like six months into dating,” she said. “So now, seven years later, when you have a little bit of breathing space, you can just enjoy each other in a new way. And that’s why I feel like it’s more of a honeymoon period for us now.”
Of her husband, Meghan added: “He’s constantly going to do whatever he can to make sure that our family is safe and protected, and we’re uplifted and still make time for date nights.”
We love to see it.
