Princess Kate is returning to her tried-and-true basics for her 2025 work uniform.

On Tuesday morning, the Princess of Wales visited the Royal Marsden Hospital, where she received treatment for her cancer last year. There, she spoke with patients similarly undergoing chemotherapy and thanked staff members for their care and hard work.

The triumphant return to the public spotlight inevitably invoked one of Kate’s classic work silhouettes. She executed the rare outing while wearing statement outerwear: a long double-breasted coat in an earthy brown hue, featuring a caramel-and-black plaid pattern, sharp lapels, and a fitted waist.

Kate layered the coat atop a knit merlot-red dress with a turtleneck and long sleeves. To color-coordinate the rest of her outfit, she added sheer brown tights, dark brown suede pumps, and a small ruby red leather bag with gold hardware from Asprey.

Kate, who announced last September that she is now cancer-free following the end of her chemotherapy treatment, spoke frankly about her experience as a patient during Tuesday’s visit.

“It’s really tough. It’s such a shock,” she told a woman currently undergoing chemotherapy, per the BBC. “Everyone said to me, ‘Please keep a positive mindset, it makes such a difference.’ ”

As for how she’s feeling now that her cancer treatment is done, Kate said, “You think the treatment has finished and you can crack on and get back to normal, but that’s still a real challenge. The words totally disappear. And understanding that as a patient, yes there are side effects around treatment but actually there are more long-term side effects.”

A spokesman for Kensington Palace told the BBC, “The princess wanted to make the journey to both show her gratitude to the incredible team, but also highlight the world leading care and treatment the Marsden provides.”

Kate is now serving as a patron of the Royal Marsden Hospital alongside her husband, Prince William.
