Duchess Meghan is gearing up to release her Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, this Tuesday, and while many scenes in the series take place in intimate settings—most often the kitchen—Meghan admitted that they were not filmed in her own home.

“I wanted to protect that safe haven,” she told People of the Montecito, California, home she shares with husband Prince Harry and their kids, Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3.

“We’re a close-knit family, and I love those moments—putting Lili down for a nap, having lunch together, having sacred time together at the end of the day,” she continued. “Our kitchen is where Mama just cooks for the family, and with a crew of 80-plus people, that’s a lot of people to have in your house!”

Apart from giving Meghan a chance to show off her hostess skills, the show also shows her in her element as a mom, making breakfast and snacks for her little ones.

“I’m up before my kids are, so I’m normally up at 6:30, and then I get them up and dressed for the day, and we go downstairs,” she said. “I love making breakfast for my family.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Meghan revealed that it felt extra special to have her own space to work, and then to receive happy visits from Harry and their children.

“They would also come with my husband and visit me on-set, and I loved that my children were able to watch me working and see the balance of that and understand what Mama does and is working to create and share,” Meghan said. “It was really special because up until then, they hadn’t seen me at work.”

All eight episodes of the duchess’ new reality series will premiere on March 4, on Netflix.
