Royals, they’re just like us. This week, Denmark’s Princess Isabella made the most relatable royal move in modern history when she posed for her official 18th birthday portrait while holding her cellphone.
In the image, Isabella—who turned 18 on April 21—wears a silky orange off-the-shoulder gown with a teal sash adorned with pins across her chest. Her regal accessories include a turquoise floral tiara, matching dangly turquoise earrings, a diamond tennis bracelet, and a gold ring. But the best part? She smiles at the camera while holding her phone—her hands demonstrating that she was probably in the middle of a text, or scrolling through social media, when the shot was taken.
Goodbye Old Guard, hello Gen-Z royalty.
“Many thanks to everyone who took part in celebrating my 18th birthday. It has really been delightful that so many have used time, thought and effort to make my day truly special. It means a lot to me. ✍️ HRH Princess Isabella,” she wrote on Instagram alongside the photo, which was taken by her mother, Queen Mary.
(The palace also posted some other photos of Isabella in her incredible orange-and-blue look—sans phone—here.)
Isabella is the eldest daughter of King Frederik X and Queen Mary. She has three siblings: older brother Christian, the Crown Prince, 19, and 14-year-old twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine. The family lives between the Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen and the Chancellery House at Fredensborg Palace, located on the island of Zealand in Denmark.
